Pioneer Utilities and Plumbing, Inc. is owned by Doris Beamon Stewart, a company founded in 1988 by her late husband, Harold “Bryan” Stewart, Jr.    Bryan had been in the construction industry for 30+ years prior to starting Pioneer, first as foreman with B.I.G. Construction, building the highway system (aka “spaghetti junction”) of Atlanta. Then, Bryan moved his family to Banner Elk, North Carolina where he was one of the early pioneers of that burgeoning mountain resort area. As a general contractor, Bryan’s various companies built hundreds of homes on Beech Mountain, Sugar Mountain, and Grandfather Mountain and provided the plumbing and electrical rough ins for hundreds more.

In the late 80’s, Bryan relocated to Gastonia, NC and created Pioneer Utilities and Plumbing, focusing on the construction of water and sewer lines in the city of Gastonia and surrounding municipalities.

Don Johnson joined the Pioneer team in 1997 and became Bryan’s protégé, learning all facets of the business. Don was promoted to Vice President in 2016 and President in 2020. Today, Don leads a dedicated, vibrant team...some of whom have been with the company for more than 20 years.
